Apple likely to fix iPhone 16 bugs with iOS 18.0.1, update expected within days

Apple is drawing closer to addressing the bugs that surfaced since the launch of iOS 18, with the release of iOS 18.0.1. This minor yet significant update is expected to resolve key issues affecting iPhone 16 users, including touch screen glitches and iMessage crashes. According to reports, iOS 18.0.1 will carry the build number 22A3370, with the update expected to roll out within the next few days.
In addition to bug fixes, Apple will begin releasing its much-anticipated new features powered by Apple Intelligence to enhance device functionality through AI. However, the initial rollout of Apple Intelligence will be limited to countries like the US, with a broader release expected in India by early 2025.
Let’s take a quick look at what the new iOS 18 update is expected to bring for iPhone users.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the release of iOS 18.0.1 is expected by mid or late October 2024. Reports from 9to5Mac and MacRumors suggest that the iOS 18.1 update has completed internal testing and is likely in its final stages of preparation. The public release of iOS 18.1 could happen by the end of this week or, at the latest, early next week.
Notably, iOS 18.0.1 will follow the initial iOS 18.0 release, which launched in September alongside the iPhone 16 series. The new OS introduced a range of features but also came with some notable glitches and performance issues. Apple has promised to resolve these to offer users a smoother experience on both older and newer iPhones.
Among the most critical issues that iOS 18.0.1 is expected to fix is a bug affecting touchscreen responsiveness on the iPhone 16 series. Since the official release of iOS 18, many users have reported that their iPhones occasionally fail to register touch inputs, leading to a frustrating user experience.
Another issue involves iMessage, where a specific bug causes the app to crash repeatedly, particularly when users share an Apple Watch face. This glitch not only disrupts communication but also risks data loss, which has understandably become a significant concern for users.
Apple is expected to address these crashes with the iOS 18.0.1 update. Additionally, security patches and performance optimizations are likely to be included in the iOS 18.1 update. While these improvements may not be as noticeable to the average user, they are crucial for maintaining device security and stability.
While iOS 18.0.1 will focus on bug fixes, Apple is already preparing for the release of iOS 18.1, scheduled for later in October. This update will introduce the highly anticipated Apple Intelligence features, which were initially unveiled during Apple’s keynote event earlier this year.
Apple Intelligence integrates AI-driven tools into the iPhone. These include new writing tools that offer intelligent suggestions and assist with content creation. Additionally, notification summaries will now be powered by AI, delivering only the most important notifications at optimal times.
These features will first be available on the iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and the iPhone 16 series. Notably, Apple has stated that in the initial release, Apple Intelligence will support US English, with support for more languages, including Indian English, expected in early 2025. Therefore, Indian users will need to wait a bit longer.
